7 College of DuPage Architecture trainees have actually turned their vision into truth after developing, structure and setting up an event structure on the Glen Ellyn school.
Found beside the McAninch Arts Center, the wood outdoor structure is called Umbra 82 by the trainees who produced it. “Umbra” describes the darkest part of a shadow, while 82 is the variety of white boxes that are inset into the piece. Trainees created the structure to have fun with light and shadows.
The job was moneyed by a grant through the College Foundation’s Resource for Excellence program. Mark Pearson, Professor of Architecture at COD, stated the eight-week Design Build class is distinct since the trainees really build their job.
