Rashad Shabazz “Spatializing Blackness”

This talk checks out how carceral power and the strategies of containment were woven into the quotidian locations of bad and working class Black individuals on Chicago’s South Side. Through and evaluation of real estate, policing, and the production of masculinity, this talk shows how the surge of Black imprisonment rates in the latter 20 th century were allowed by the location of imprisonment at the start of the century.
